Welcome to Homeschooling Second Grade Social Studies! My goal is to guide you step-by-step through the process of learning to use the high-quality, free history and geography curriculum from Core Knowledge to homeschool your student.
What Will Your Student Learn in Second Grade? Your student will be improving their understanding of maps and geographical features as well as the geography of North and South America. They’ll also study world history including the ancient cultures of India, China, and Greece and be introduced to the modern geography and culture of Japan. In U.S. history they will learn about the Constitution’s role in American government, the War of 1812, and dive deeper into Western Expansion including the lives of pioneers, the Oregon Trail, and the Pony Express as well as the effects this expansion had on Native Americans. Your student will also study the Civil War as well as be introduced to U.S. immigration and citizenship and a number of Civil Rights leaders including Susan B. Anthony, Mary McLeod Bethune, Jackie Robinson, Cesar Chavez, and many others.
